These standards explain how we select, rank, source, update, and correct public guides and local recommendations.
Our editorial purpose
Perk Nation guides should help a reader make a decision. A page must add planning value beyond repeating an event title, address, or organizer description. Useful additions can include ranked choices, best-for guidance, realistic timing, price context, reservation considerations, neighborhood connections, and a clear explanation of why an option is recommended.
We prioritize Southern California subjects for which there is current, reliable information and meaningful local context. We do not create a city guide solely because a city name could attract a search visit.
Sources and verification
For time-sensitive information, we prefer the source closest to the event or service: an organizer, venue, city agency, official tourism organization, convention center, museum, festival, market, restaurant-week organizer, chamber, or business website. Secondary coverage can provide context, but it should not replace a current primary source for dates, admission rules, prices, registration status, or cancellation information.
Readers should be able to reach an official source from the guide when a decision depends on information that may change. We state uncertainty when a detail cannot be confirmed and avoid presenting estimates as published facts.
Rankings and recommendation notes
Rankings reflect reader utility for the stated guide, not universal quality. Depending on the subject, factors may include date relevance, distinctiveness, value, breadth of programming, suitability for families or groups, ease of planning, proximity to other useful options, and the strength of available source information.
We do not invent star ratings, customer sentiment, personal visits, or first-hand tasting claims. When we have not personally reviewed an experience, our notes focus on documented features and practical use cases rather than pretending to offer a first-person review.
Updates, expirations, and corrections
Event dates and promotions can change quickly. Prominent recommendations are reviewed against current source pages, and expired items are removed from active homepage and guide placements. A historical recap may remain available when it has lasting editorial value, but it should be clearly framed as past coverage.
If you find an incorrect date, business detail, attribution, or other factual problem, email cs@perknation.app with the page URL and supporting source. Material corrections are made as promptly as practical. Updating a recommendation does not guarantee that an organizer or business has not changed information again after our review.
Business directory standards
Directory listings may begin with public business records, chamber information, merchant-provided details, or other lawful sources. A listing is not an endorsement. Raw records can be incomplete or outdated, so users should confirm important information directly with the business.
Businesses may request corrections and provide current descriptions, websites, hours, photos, and service information. We distinguish basic directory information from editorial recommendations and prioritize verified, useful details over the number of pages in the directory.
Advertising, rewards, and independence
Perk Nation may earn revenue through advertising, sponsorships, merchant participation, or rewards relationships. Commercial participation does not guarantee inclusion in an editorial ranking or control the substance of a recommendation. Paid placement should be labeled so readers can distinguish it from independent editorial material.
